The County Town Singers:
Where Music Comes to Life!
Are you passionate about singing? Do you love the thrill of performing and want to be part of a vibrant musical community? Look no further! County Town Singers invites talented sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses to join our mixed-voice, auditioned choir. Each week, we create enchanting melodies that resonate with our audiences and fill our hearts with joy!
Why Join the County Town Singers?
Get Involved in Your Community: Make new friends who share a love of music. Our community choir is all inclusive for all levels and reading music is not required.
Blend Your Voice: Regular attendance at rehearsals and workshops helps us hone our individual parts and harmonize seamlessly as a choir. It’s all about creating musical magic together!
Diverse Membership: Our choir is a tapestry of ages, backgrounds, and experiences, united by the love of music and the thrill of performing. Some members join for a year or two, others stay for several years, and a few have been with us for more than 35 years!
Meet John, a County Town Singers member of more than 50 years.
Learn more about his experience with the choir – and why he’s proud to be a member.
“I first joined CTS in 1973(?) at the urging of my wife (at the time). She had joined a season earlier. I have no recollection why I joined, as I had no music training and couldn’t read a note (still can’t). I believe I was accepted for the same reason that we still accept many men into the choir – choirs are always short of male voices. And they let me stay!! Now, decades later, I’m still here – with a couple breaks in between. And I still can’t read music.
I have made lifelong friends and continue to do so to this day. I remember the ‘old days’ when some referred to the choir as the ‘County Town Swingers.’ But that was the 70s! This choir has always been like a family to many (me included). And now I’m one of only a couple of the old guard left from those early days.
I have sung for many different directors (I still have a soft spot for our first director, Jim Ashley), and loved them all for different reasons. I have always loved music of many different genres, which we continue to sing, and discovered a love of choral singing which is both a challenge and which demands a commitment from those who partake. As we say, “we sing for the love of it”. (But it ain’t always easy)
I have been deeply involved from the beginning both musically, socially and in executive positions – I was ALL IN. But it isn’t for everyone. We demand a lot of our members – we never use music onstage – we memorize 15 to 20 songs a season – it’s our badge of honour. I’m very proud to have been a member for all these years. And I still can’t believe they accepted me all those years ago! Try it, you’ll love it!!”
Meet Marianne, a 50+ year choir member with the County Town Singers.
Find out why she’s still singing – five decades later!
“Well, I cannot believe it’s been over 50 years since I have been a member of this wonderful choir.
A co-worker of mine, who caught me singing in my office said to me back in 1973, join up, the County Town Singers are going to Austria in 1974. Well, I joined as a Soprano and have never regretted it.
I have learned so many wonderful, diverse songs from the various Musical Directors and the camaraderie in the group is second to none. It’s such a well-run organization, with an Executive who always have the singers’ best interests at heart.
Over the years, I have travelled to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, etc. and what a fun group to travel with. I have made friends with many lovely, dedicated people, all with one common goal to, “Sing for the Love of It.” My memories are too numerous to list here. I have formed a life-long bond and am very proud to be a part of my beloved County Town Singers.”
